I love eating peanut butter and pickle sandwiches so much that I added and mixed up the ingredients. The original peanut butter and pickle sandwich only had three ingredients. Which are Pickles, peanut butter and your choice of bread! I like to add cheese or turkey bacon. Sometimes I like to fry my sandwich to add a buttery taste on the outside of the bread.
One question I get asked a lot when eating peanut butter and pickle sandwiches in front of friends is what kind of pickles do you use dill, sweet or bread n butter. The answer is simple. Use your favorite kind of pickle. I suggest trying different flavors of pickles to figure out which you like best.
This how I make a peanut butter and pickle sandwich:
The first thing I do is choose which kind of bread I will be using. I like the "Sandwich Skinnys", as they are thinner than most bread.
Next, I spread a healthy serving of peanut butter on both slices of bread. The peanut butter holds the ingredients on to keep from falling out of the bread while eating.
Next, I add a slice of cheese. This slice of cheese is Gouda. Really any kind of cheese will do. Choose our favorite or what is available.
Next, I add as many pickles as I can get on one layer. I top it with the other slice bread with peanut butter.
If I have turkey bacon, I will add it to the slice of cheese and peanut butter on the piece of bread.
Do you like eating peanut butter and pickle sandwiches? How do you prepare your version?
I am going to have to be honest and say that the thought of peanut butter and pickles together kind of gives me the shudders. But if you like it, then each to your own. The rest of your sandwich wounds yum though!
ReplyDeleteIt is a strange combination but it works. Some people prefer dill pickle while others like bread n butter or sweet pickles. It all comes down to taste.
DeleteDelicious! I love peanut butter in a sandwich but I have not tried it yet with pickle gherkins. Thanks for the idea.

DeleteYou're going to laugh at me. I kept trying to pin your Pinterest Image to my 400 Calories or Less board, and was getting frustrated, because I just couldn't do it. Then, I realized I was in my email and not here, at your website. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI can remember eating these when growing up. Haven't had one in years, though. We recently moved to Texas, so right now, I don't have an oven. Living in an extended motel. So, I'll have to try this when I can make my gluten-free bread again.
Oh it makes a great sandwich without using a microwave or oven.
DeleteOkay Sandy, I can't say that I have ever tried this combination. I am willing to give it a try, but, I'm not sure that it's up my alley so to speak. I will give it a good go though.
ReplyDeleteI love the combination of how well everything goes together. If you try, please let me know. I would love to hear if this one is for you or not.

DeleteLol, I never ate pregnant. I started eating this as a kid. My grandma use to make them for all the grandkids. Something she did with a limited budget.
When I first encountered the PB and bologna sandwich, it was through a girlfriend who was pregnant. I joked that she was feeding her cravings but she said her father used to make the sandwich for her when she was a little girl. It was comfort food for her.
DeleteI tried it after much cajoling and discovered it was actually quite tasty! I'm sure PB and pickles is also quite good.
I have to say I've never tried this combo. But I would probably enjoy it. I love deep fried dill pickles. And I used to love eating a peanut butter and bologna sandwich. No pickles, but I'm sure it would be good with them!
